Pool Winterising Tips

Preparing for Winter

As the swimming season comes to a close, it’s time to prepare your pool for the colder months ahead. End-of-season maintenance is a key step in your pool’s maintenance cycle because it needs care throughout the year, even during autumn and winter.  Care at this time of year will ensure an easy open up in the spring time.

Should you empty your pool and/or lower the water level at the end of the season?

No, if possible during the colder months, BARYOL advises against emptying your pool or lowering the water level.  Instead, it's recommended to keep the filtration system running for a few hours each day. This is known as active or dynamic winterisation. You can follow the end-of-season pool care routine HERE.

If you prefer to stop the filtration and fully close your pool for the winter, follow phase 2 of the end-of-season pool care routine HERE.

Whichever method you choose, BAYROL recommends using both Chloryte® and Puripool® Super to protect your pool over winter:

  • Chloryte®
A powerful shock treatment to eliminate impurities. This highly concentrated calcium hypochlorite formula contains 70% active chlorine and dissolves quickly for effective disinfection.

  • Puripool® Super – your essential winter pool protection
Puripool® Super is specially formulated to maintain your pool water in optimal condition throughout the winter months, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free clean-up come spring. Its advanced formula helps prevent calcification, protecting surfaces and equipment from scale build-up. Additionally, it contains a powerful anti-algae agent that inhibits algae growth as temperatures begin to rise in early spring—keeping your pool crystal clear and ready for the new season.
